Rodney Hide and Penny Marie are back on Reality Check Radio. They are talking about the situation in schools and with our children, and go through Rodney’s recent Official Information Act (OIA) response from Minister of Education Erica Stanford.
The facts in this OIA (From the Ministry of Education staff to Ms Stanford, dated 7 December 2023) states that there are ‘no compulsory RSE topics’. Which is contrary to what many school leaders and teachers understand to be true.
This opens up the opportunity for teachers to remove unwanted RSE topics, and not wait until the RSE Guidelines are ‘removed and replaced’ which is a coalition agreement action that many parents, and principals, are saying can’t happen soon enough.
